John D. Scott, MD FACS - Surgeon

Dr. John D. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Baylor University and a Master of Science in molecular cell sciences from the University of Memphis. He attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, graduating in 2001. In 2006, he completed his residency in General Surgery at the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center in South Carolina. Dr. Scott completed a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Cincinnati. During his fellowship, he gained significant experience in weight-loss surgical techniques as well as advanced training in minimally invasive hernia, gastrointestinal and endocrine surgery.

Dr. Scott joined the University of Tennessee faculty as Assistant Professor of Surgery in July, 2007. He decided to return to his surgical home in Greenville at the Greenville Hospital System in September, 2008. His clinical practice and academic work concentrate on minimally invasive surgery. He has presented regionally and nationally on the topics of laparoscopic and robotic surgery and continues to publish research in the field of minimally invasive surgery.

He is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is active in the American College of Surgeons, the Southeastern Surgical Society, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons.

He and his wife, Jean, have two daughters, Addison and Caroline. Dr. Scott is thrilled to be back in Greenville and is looking forward to working with patients in the upstate.
