PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES
Dr. Bour says our approach at Bariatric Solutions is to “Ask not what Bariatric surgery can do for you? Ask what you can do for yourself after Bariatric surgery.”
This does not mean that you must travel the journey alone! Here at Bariatric Solutions a full time psychologist is on staff and available to lend you a helping hand. Our psychologist, Dr. Susan Calhoun, has shared the weight loss journey with hundreds of people just like you. She knows the common problems and challenges, and is here to help you get through all of the life changes you will need to make after surgery. She is also here to help you get ready for surgery.
We all know how much food and weight has been on your mind. Bariatric surgery is a wonderful tool for weight loss, but the surgery is on your stomach and not your head. Changing how you think about food, how you feel about yourself as you lose weight, how other people act toward you as you lose weight, and keeping the weight off for a lifetime are what we mean about helping yourself.
Many people are surprised to find out just how much food has been a part of their life and how much of a friend food has been during times of stress and joy. We have all heard the old saying about “Eating to live rather than living to eat”. Making this change along your journey will be much easier with an experienced guide and helping hand.
When thinking about making that life saving decision on which weight loss surgery program is right for you, make a choice that will give you all the tools you need for life long success. At Bariatric Solutions we are invested in your continued success and not just weight loss after surgery. We all know that losing weight does not always lead to keeping the weight off.
We could just do the surgery and send you on your way. But that is not what we call success. Keeping the weight off and enjoying life is our goal for each and every patient. Having patients maintain their weight loss year after year, enjoying life, seeing children and grandchildren grow up, being more active, taking less medication, living longer - that is what we call success.
Dr. Calhoun’s many years of experience helping Bariatric patients can be a key to your long term success. When considering any Bariatric program always ask if there is a full time psychologist, with years of experience on staff and available to help you help yourself. Dr. Calhoun is in the office full time and is available for counseling patients before and after surgery. Isn’t it much better having someone available in the office vs. trying to find your own counseling help, often times waiting weeks for an appointment, and maybe being their first experience with the weight loss journey? Your success is too important to let an inexperienced counselor learn at your expense. |
