Surgical Program

Using guidelines established by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), patients weighing more than 100 pounds over their ideal body weight, or a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher are candidates for surgical treatment. Patients with a BMI between 35 and 40 may be candidates for surgery if they suffer from comorbid conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, lung disease, severe reflux disease, and/or arthritis.
